The injectable drug solution Novobédouze® was used to treat pain essentially. It contained hydroxocobalamin which is a manufactured form of vitamin B12 (cobalamin) commonly used for supplementation. A deficiency in vitamin B12 can present with a variety of neurological and cognitive symptoms. A treatment with frequent hydroxocobalamin intramuscular injections can help to improve the cognitive, emotional, and motor functions. Alternatively, hydroxocobalamin can be used also to treat smoke inhalation and cyanide poisoning, acting as a scavenger for nitric oxide (NO) radicals. It can be used also to treat postoperative vasodilatory shock. However, the use of the drug requires a precise monitoring because hypervitaminosis B12 has been associated with renal failure, liver diseases and other organ damages. In practice, the analgesic drug Novobédouze® was essentially prescribed to treat neurological pain. It is no longer used today.
