The drug Tonicalcium®, formulated in 10 mL drinkable ampules, was recommended to treat the states of passenger fatigue. It contained vitamin C (ascorbate), lysine and calcium carbonate, three active substances to combat asthenia in adults. Lysine is an essential aminoacid and calcium ascorbate has an antioxidant activity, coupled to a high intestinal absorption. Antioxidant agents contribute to reducing the production of reactive oxygen species. Ascorbate is commonly used in foods as a preservative agent. The combination of vitamin C and calcium supplementation showed beneficial effects on fatigue management, notably in cases of muscle fatigue. Calcium helps to mineralize bones and ascorbate contributes to energy increase and resistance.
